When I returned to San Antonio and started blogging a little over 2 years now I knew I had to make this blogging thing work.
The local job market here is not my cup of tea, often the pay is half of what it should be. I tried to reach out to some local online people and that was basically a FAIL. I kept working as blogging affords us the chance to make real friends around the WORLD.
We can’t dismiss local.
Now that I’m slightly confident in creating sites for businesses and people that will do very well in Google search and I can turn around sites FAST I need to keep the work coming in.
Now you may think I would start off with the new changes at Google but surprisingly I have found Yahoo’s sites much better in terms of actually getting calls. You can use these sites for any business ![]()

Somethings that have helped me get more work is having a friendly attitude and the people know I’m available, this has resulted in some excellent feedback and MORE work from the same people.
Most “normal ” people don’t want to know how to add a widget or set up their permalinks the right way this where WE come in. I have been doing sites for an excellent price and I’m happy with what I have been making.
Originally I thought I would need business cards (which I have vistaprint style LOL ) and have to spend all my time running around this HUGE city begging for work, that hasn’t happened YET ![]()
I don’t like the fact that it has cut into my friend time and blogging but when the rent is due you MUST react.
One other thing is I like to make it REAL EASY on myself and really LISTEN to what the person wants, then I spend some time with them usually in real life to show them the basics of their site.I run adword campaigns for them and I do get them on the first page for their keywords. I figure the avg I make from the work I do is anywhere from 50-100 bucks an hour not bad for lounging around smoking weed all day
Oh and I don’t mention that to them LOL
My secret weapon
Have you had any success with LOCAL ?
Sometimes in blogging we waste so much time on useless things when the solution was right there
I mean HERE
If you want to write a post on this blog hit me up on Twitter Thanks

I mix it up and have some fun on there asking questions etc this is a good site to lockdown your services in your area
Hey there, thanks for the heads up, I didn’t know about yahoo local, maybe I should add Blazing Minds to my local to get a bit of blogging work coming in

“but the legend of the rent was way hardcore!”
I didn’t know about that either. I’m going to check that out.

Seriously now, I’ve been getting calls and e-mails lately from long-time clients and friends wanting to do some work but sadly I had to turn them away because I’m working full time for someone.
It helps to stay in the loop of what’s happening around your town and keeping lines of communication open so they’d know you still exist.
This is a cool little resource I came across last night

Thanks everyone for the support
So this is where you hang out now.
Gratz John on starting another site and on building your consulting business.
I’m glad you’re checking out the real world. 99% of the people I know don’t even read blogs. There are lots of opportunities out there.
